When to give Manual Handling training
Posted by admin at November 23rd, 2013
The HSE tell us that Manual Handling training should be given to ‘NewStarters’ and at regular refresher intervals.
This requirement can prove difficult to implement for most UK employers. Not only in terms of cost but also logistics.
Many face-to-face trainers require a minimum number of candidates which makes the requirement to train new starters quite difficult. Add to this the fact that practical training can cost between £25 and £70 per person and you begin to see the challenge to most employers.
£70 per head for all staff at regular intervals is a significant training expenditure on just one of the many health and safety requirements.
However the clear requirement to train ‘New Starters’ is obviously the biggest challenge to traditional training. How much would manual handling trainers want to train just one employee and make it viable to them?
Surely then the ability to give instant training to an employee on induction to the company via a training DVD is a practical and cost-effective solution.
